Kullu ancient temple of Bijli Mahadev – electricity falls every twelve years
There are many such miracles associated with Mahadev, which are well known. There is one such supernatural and wonderful ancient temple, which is situated in Himachal Pradesh, in the land of Dev Dev, Himachal. There is a belief in the entire Kullu valley that this valley is the form of a giant snake. This giant snake was slaughtered by Lord Shiva.
The place where the Bijli Mahadev Temple is. There after every twelve years the fierce celestial lightning falls on the Shivling. Shivalinga is broken due to lightning. The priests here collect the pieces of that fragmented Shivling and add it with butter. Shortly after, Shivalinga transforms into its old concrete shape.
Why electricity falls after every twelve years and how was this place named Kullu?
There is a legend behind it which is as follows-
Long time ago there used to be a monster called Kulant. After taking the form of a dragon from the Naganadhar near Kulant Kullu, after passing through the Ghogghardhar of Mandi, came to the village of Mathan from Lahaul Spiti.
By killing the monster-like dragon, he sat down to stop the flood of Beas river. He wanted to submerge the place in water. Its purpose behind this was that all people and animals living here would die by drowning in water. Lord Shiva became concerned with this thought stream of the dragon in the form of a monster.
Then Lord Shiva came there and said to his illusion in the ear of the monster-like dragon that your tail has caught fire. Hearing this, the dragon looked back and saw Shiva dislocated his head from the trunk with his trident. The clash came to an end with the striking of the trident. After the death of the patriarch, his body turned into a huge mountain. His body was spread in the entire space of the earth, the whole area was turned into a mountain. That place of Kullu Valley is believed to be built from the body of the Kulant, the Rohtang Pass from the Bijli Mahadev and the Ghogghardhar in Mandi. This is the story from the Kulant named Kulut and after this Kullu.
Why does celestial lightning fall on the Shivling itself?
It is said about the celestial lightning falling on the Shivling itself that Lord Shiva did not want that when the lightning falls, it will not cause any harm to public wealth. Therefore, to save Bholenath people, they drop this terrible celestial lightning on their own. With this cause, Bholenath is called the Bijli Mahadev here.
